  • Oh, sigh. Double sigh. I am going to have to travel, I see. ;-) I know the workshop is already over, but I'm sure you'll do another one eventually :).

Would it be possible for me to get the written study guide (for a fee of course :)? I am desperate for making zills part of my dance practice. I think I would really get the weight/foot placement better if I knew the beats and could actually count. I feel the music, but when I get lost, I can't find the beat and I get desperate. I think the zills would help with that. There really is nothing out there to help with these fabulous percussive babies. Small, portable and they pack a punch. What's not to love?

I'm also persuading my partner into giving me drumming lessons. You have really inspired me.

    Andrea.
    • I do have a zill cheat sheet online on my website - www.heavyhips.net. And I offer the 5 hour in depth workshop every 2 months or so. I always encourage everyone to get the feet and body technique first, then add the zills - its a layering thing and its tricky if you're still in the beginning stages (which can be up to a year) to add the zills. Also if you can begin to learn some of the basic Arabic drum rhythms that's helpful too.

      Blessings, Palika
      • That's very helpful to know that it takes up to a year to get the feet and body techniques. I need to give myself some more time. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the drumming lessons immensely and it is helping with the count. I did see your cheat sheet but I was looking for more details and your class description hinted at that. :) I found Jas's Mid-East Rhythms page and it has a rhythm generator, which is very helpful for those times when I can't remember how an Ayoub goes ;o). Written notation only goes so far! Thanks for the encouragement and the information about the frequency of your class. Perhaps I can get myself from my place to your place sometime! :)
